If we understand reading to be isomorphic to authoring, it becomes clear that the reader can no longer be regarded as the self-evident recipient of text-signification. Finally, in Ricoeur's theory that generic considerations are correlative principles of production and interpretation, we find a basis for understanding genre as praxis. Rather, because they are constituted by historical reflections, their rise and decline are intrinsic to text-interpretation. After Gadamer, genres can no longer be regarded as timeless a priori categories. In Gadamer's theory of interpretation, the notion of genre acquires historicity. According to both Hirsch and Todorov, somewhere between empirical details and metaphysical thematizations lie generic formulations which can assist the reader to organize his/her response to the text and to recognize the probable understanding toward which the conventions of the text are directed. Todorov, for example, illustrates how "form" is a theoretical, as distinct from a descriptive or explanatory, issue. Hirsch, Hans-Georg Gadamer, Tzvetain Todorov, and Paul Ricoeur have each surpassed the idealist notion of genre as a classificatory device and developed in its place the notion of genre as a generative pinciple. ![]() The notion of "genre" as developed by four recent theorists is helpful in the task of constructing a critique of "reader." E. Some new way of understanding the hermeneutical circle is required to avert the narcissism latent in the Anselmian model. Whether in the study of religion as story and biography or in interpretative reading in general, a critical notion of reader is essential if the act of reading is to be anything other than mere consumption of texts. Ultimately, this chapter provides a framework for understanding teacher knowledge that project designers and researchers can use when designing and studying professional development experiences and related curricular materials.read more read lessĪbstract: In recent years, the need for a critique of "reader" as rigorous as that which has been developed for "text" and for "author" has become increasingly acute. Examples from the projects profiled in this volume are used to illustrate and define the knowledge domains of Technological Content Knowledge, Technological Pedagogical Knowledge, and TPACK. ![]() Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) serves as a theoretical model that reveals the interrelationships between the types of knowledge and specific pedagogical approaches that teachers use when teaching science with geospatial technology. This final chapter synthesizes what has been learned about the knowledge needed for teachers to successfully implement geospatial inquiry. Rigid body docking suggests that all of the diastereomers adopt solution-phase conformations suitable for alignment with the HIV-1 protease however, these results indicate that the binding affinities are dependent upon subtle differences in the P1/P1' and P2/P2' substituent orientations.read more read lessĪbstract: Section II provides insights into the design and implementation of professional development and curricular resources for teaching science with geospatial technology. The results indicate that diastereomeric solution-phase energetic stability, conformational rigidity and ability to adopt a chair conformation correlate strongly with experimental binding affinities. An ensemble of low energy structures was generated using OPLSAA/GBSA(water) and used to compare the molecular shape and flexibility of each diastereomer to the experimentally determined binding affinities and crystal structures of closely related systems. The energetic ordering of the minima on the OPLSAA /GBSA(water) surface was in better agreement with the quantum calculations than the ordering on the AMBER/GBSA(water) surface. Force fields were validated by a comparison of the energetic ordering of the minimum energy structures on the AMBER/GBSA(water), OPLSAA/GBSA(water) and HF/6-311G/SCRF(water) surfaces. ![]() Abstract: The conformational flexibility of a series of diastereomeric cyclic urea HIV-1 protease inhibitors has been examined using the Low Mode:Monte Carlo conformational search method.
